Budget Town Hall
This month, County Executive Stuart Pittman and I had the privilege of meeting with the residents of District 1 to gather valuable feedback on the proposed budget plans and strategies we are developing for our community. These town hall meetings provided a significant opportunity for residents to voice their thoughts on how county funds are allocated across various departments and the services available for the year ahead.
We were encouraged by the large turnout! Many constituents shared their perspectives, which helped us better understand the issues important to District 1 residents. We heard passionate testimonies on key topics such as funding for education, educator pay, the potential for a new animal control facility, and other community needs that will help make District 1—and all of Anne Arundel—better for everyone.
A heartfelt thank you to all who participated and made their voices heard!
Opening of the Real-Time Information Center (RTIC)
I had the privilege of joining some of my colleagues from the county council at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s new state-of-the-art Real-Time Information Center (RTIC). This cutting-edge facility is set to revolutionize public safety and crime prevention. RTIC will equip officers with vital information before they arrive on the scene, allowing for more effective intelligence follow-up, early threat disruption, and access to crucial evidence for investigations
The RTIC integrates real-time situational awareness, CCTV, license plate readers, and advanced data analytics to monitor critical incidents as they unfold. This technology equips officers with immediate, actionable intelligence, allowing them to proactively address crime, reduce public safety risks, and improve emergency response times.
I’m excited to see the RTIC play a key role in ensuring our law enforcement agencies have the resources to keep our communities safe.
Governor Moore’s Black History Month Celebration
February is Black History Month, and Governor and First Lady Moore opened Government House, their home, to celebrate Maryland's rich history. At a time when over 30 state legislatures across the country have introduced bills to limit the discussion of racial history, I am proud that Maryland continues to learn from what’s happened in the past and how it affects our present. As Governor Moore said, “Now is the time for us to remember our history—because our history is our power.”
Thank you to Governor Wes Moore and First Lady Dawn Moore for hosting us for an educational night of celebration and remembrance!
