2024 Maryland Association of Counties Summer Conference
In mid-August, I attended the 2024 Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Summer Conference at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Worcester County. Nearly 2,000 local, state, and federal government employees and officials went “down the ocean” for 4 days of agency briefings, organization meetings, and regional county meetings, as well as MACo committee meetings.
The conference also offers approximately 30 continuing education sessions and dozens of informative speakers from the public and private sectors. A highlight of the week is a trade show featuring over 250 commercial, state, and county services and products that help Counties deliver services to their residents.
2024 Democratic National Convention
In late August, I was honored and privileged to attend the 2024 Democratic National Convention in my hometown of Chicago. Though I didn’t get to dine at my favorite restaurant, it was an incredible experience reconnecting with friends and family and making new acquaintances, all united in enthusiasm for the future.
I was a proud Marylander when Prince George's County Executive and Democratic Nominee for the U.S. Senate Angela Alsobrooks took the stage on Tuesday night and Governor Wes Moore on Wednesday night. A personal highlight was meeting former Chicago Bull, current Golden State Warriors Head Coach and Coach of the 2024 Gold Medal-winning Men’s Olympic Basketball Team, Steve Kerr, who also spoke at the Convention.
Fall Reception at The Blue Dolphin
Back-to-school season is in full swing, and family and work calendars are filling up quickly. I hope you can set aside time to join me at my annual Fall Reception on Wednesday, October 16 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Blue Dolphin Seafood Bar & Grill.
