Glen Burnie Improvement Association’s Annual Tree Lighting
On Friday, December 6, I attended the Glen Burnie Improvement Association (GBIA) annual tree lighting to celebrate the start of the holiday season. Families enjoyed sweets, treats, and time with Santa. Attendees were encouraged to bring donations to two organizations that help so many during the holidays: Toys for Tots and Harundale Presbyterian Food Pantry.
It was great to see Anne Arundel County Police Department Officers from the Northern District visiting with the children. Thank you to the leaders of the GBIA, an association that has been an organizing force for Glen Burnie since 1908. Your work has made Glen Burnie a great place to live, learn, work, and worship.
Ringing in the New Year in Anne Arundel County
Annapolis and Anne Arundel County are brimming with holiday activities. Consistently touted as one of the East Coast's best holiday towns, Annapolis is an especially magical place for creating holiday memories with family and friends over New Year's!
Some fun, family-friendly events include: Annapolis’ New Year fireworks over Spa Creek, NYE Bash with Doc Maren & the Flannels at Twain’s Tavern, Lights on the Bay, and the Jolly Express Cruise with Captain Santa and Mrs. Claus!
For those 21 & over, you can enjoy the NYE Annapolis Yacht Party with DJ, fireworks, and of course, a glass of bubbly to ring in the new year!
You won’t have to leave Anne Arundel County to ring in the new year with family and friends!
First Day Hikes
First Day Hikes are free, guided hikes offered each year on New Year’s Day. The hikes are intended to promote an alternate way of celebrating the New Year by going outside, exercising, and enjoying local nature and history. Start 2025 off on the right foot by joining knowledgeable park rangers, naturalists, and volunteers in one of our County’s beautiful parks.
Sturdy footwear, binoculars, cameras, and a water bottle are recommended. Please dress for the weather. You can find more information about First Day Hikes HERE.
Happy Holidays
As we reflect on the year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your loved ones during this special holiday season. Whether you're celebrating with family, and friends, or taking time for personal reflection, I hope this time of year brings you peace, joy, and gratitude.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Together, we have made progress in our community, and I look forward to all we will achieve in the coming year.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year!
Warm Regards,
Councilman Pete Smith
